Choosing the Right Photographer for your Myrtle Beach Newborn Session

Newborn photography is very different from any other type of photography. The person you hire should be skilled in the handling and care of newborns, as well as the photographic craft. Shopping on price alone can be a huge mistake, and I have had many a parent come to me after making that mistake, regretting having hired "the cheaper photographer" and spending more time and money on a do-over. By the time the do-over takes place, baby is older and is no longer a true newborn. Time is fleeting and I hope that you will take careful consideration in who you hire. Your newborn session takes much skill, patience and hours of work before, during and after your session is completed to bring you the final product. If you choose wisely you will never regret spending money on this once in a lifetime purchase. Some questions to ask when considering which photographer to hire:

 • Does the photographer specialize in newborns? (Those that do not specialize will obviously have much less experience in working with newborns).

• How much experience does this photographer have with newborns? A photographer who states that they specialize in newborns may still be very new to the craft. A good questions to ask is " how many newborns do you work with per year" and "how many years have you been working with newborns". Even a well seasoned photographer of other genres does not count for an experienced newborn photographer if it is not something they have been doing regularly for years.

• Do I love this photographer's style? Is the photographer's style consistent throughout their portfolio, or do they simply have a few shots you like? A consistent portfolio tells you that the photographer is without a doubt capable of creating the same type of images at your session. You should see a minimum of 30-50 consistent images in a portfolio, of all different babies. Also check the photographer's blog and social media pages. Inconsistency in lighting, posing, etc... is a sure sign of inexperience, which means that the photographer may not be able to produce images in the same style as the few that you see shown that you like). Please be cautious, there are some new photographers out there who, aside from lacking proper licensing, post work that is not their own. If you see huge inconsistencies in their body of work, take this as a red flag. That brings us to the next question to ask...

• Is this photographer running a legitimate business? Are they licensed and insured? Do they have a contract to sign before booking the session? Yes, all of these factors will increase the price of your session, however, it is extremely important that the person you hire is doing business the right way, for more reasons than I can list here. Maybe I will write an upcoming blog on this topic alone because there is just too much to cover in one bullet point on this. Simply having a DSLR camera does not a professional make.

I have been photographing newborns as a professional for the past 18 years and have studied under some of the world's top newborn photographers nationally and abroad. I hold a bachelor's degree in Studio Art and am a mother to 3. In 2018 I was awarded South Carolina's Best Newborn Photographer. My business is licensed and insured and if you hire me you will need to sign a contract. I love this job and never take for granted what a privilege it is to capture these precious new souls. At this point I can't even count how many newborns I have photographed, but it has been a joy and honor to capture each and every one, and I am as passionate about my craft now as I was in the beginning.

Fine Art Newborn photography from a skilled artist is a LUXURY and is one of those "once in a lifetime" things to be saved for. If it is not readily within your budget, a payment plan may be arranged. Please contact me for details. I would love to capture this time in your life, whether it's here in Myrtle Beach or anywhere in the world!

And with that, please enjoy a few images from this recent session. Precious baby Renata with her mommy and brother.
